How to coordinate colours seamlessly

Embrace neutral colours

Neutral colours blend together and go with just about any other block colour e.g. black and white. Equally they also pair well together.

Follow the 3 colour rule

Don’t match too many colours in an outfit! The 3 colour rule is all about keeping it simple and not wearing more than 3 colours in an outfit. You could just use one basic colour and pair with something for a pop of colour, it’s all in the details! For a more in depth description be sure to check out http://jolynneshane.com/fashion-hacks-the-3-colour-rule.html I recommend having a read of her post all about the 3 colour rule if you’re wanting to learn more about it!

Choose items you know match!

This is an easy way to create a well coordinated outfit e.g. you may have a white dress and a pale pink jacket that you know will coordinate perfectly with each other.

Start with one piece

We all have staple, versatile pieces in our wardrobe that we can wear with different items and it always works well! So think about starting with that versatile piece and build an outfit with it.

It’s all about the accessories!

Adding accessories to any outfit can instantly make it look 10 times better!

That’s why I probably why I take a handbag with me everywhere I go, they can just add a statement to any outfit. It’s a great way to add a pop of colour to a simple outfit! One important rule to remember when accessorising is to not overdo it! Just a simple pair of earrings are a great way to make an outfit look more elegant and elaborate. One or two accessories that help complement your outfit is all you need. Less is definitely more when accessorising!

Use the colour wheel

Understanding the colour wheel can help you style outfits with colours that complement each other.

Primary colours are red, yellow and blue.

Secondary colours include green, purple, and orange.

Tertiary colours are a combo of primary and secondary colours.

There are analogous colours these fade into each other, so they blend well when coordinating outfits.

Complementary colours are opposite each other such as red and green, typically these colours go well together.

Tones of colours like red, orange, and yellow etc. are all warm colours. Cool colours are shades of blue, purple, green etc.. These colour shades all help to enhance your skin tone. So determining what colours suit your skin tone and features ( features, meaning hair colour, eye colour) can be helpful in choosing what colours you wear.

Investing in timeless pieces

Last but not least, if you can invest in pieces that never go out of style they will help you to have well coordinated outfits. Whether you buy them second hand ( much more affordable) or choose to save for a more expensive piece for your wardrobe it is worth investing in quality pieces that can last for years and be paired with anything and will never fail you! I have items in my wardrobe that I wore when I was 13 that still to this day fit me perfectly.

I really hope you found these tips useful!

With love,
